🚗 Argo AI began operating fully driverless cars in Miami and Austin. Their in-house app is used to hail cars to transport Argo AI employees around the two cities.

🤗 A new Hugging Face-Microsoft collaboration, called “Endpoints,” allows developers to deploy Hugging Face models directly to Azure infrastructure with a few clicks.

🌐 Meta released OPT, an open source GPT-3 competitor. After OpenAI kept the GPT-3 code under wraps, this is the largest language model to be released for free public use.

Research

🐱 DeepMind released Gato: a new multi-modal, multi-task, generalist AI agent trained to perform 596 tasks. With 1.2 billion parameters, the agent can chat, caption images, perform actions with a robotic arm, and play Atari.

🧠 MIT’s STEGO algorithm sets a new state-of-the-art for unsupervised semantic segmentation. Without labels, the algorithm learns and distills “feature correspondence”—an image’s correlation with itself, related images, and random images.

🧩 An AI model won the top crossword tournament, surpassing human performance for the first time. The newest paper by Berkley researchers proposes a method to exactly solve crossword puzzles 82% of the time.
